Shingles Shots
It’s Official: You should get the shingles shot!
You know eating right and exercise can help you stay healthy, but so can vaccines. They’re not just for kids. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) some vaccinations, such as the shingles vaccine, are also important for adults1.
To provide our customers with convenient access to preventive health care services, our pharmacists are specially trained to administer adult vaccines. You can receive your CDC-recommended shingles vaccine during a regular grocery shopping trip or with an appointment that fits your schedule.
Who needs a Shingles Vaccine?
You are a candidate for Shingles if you are over 60 years of age. There is no maximum age for getting the shingles vaccine.
How common is shingles?
Each year, nearly 1 million shingles cases are reported. Up to half of these cases occur in people age 60 and older.
What is shingles?
Shingles is a painful rash, often with blisters caused by the herpes-zoster virus. The varicella-zoster (chickenpox) virus stays dormant in your body and can be reactivated as herpes-zoster years later, causing shingles.
Why Get Vaccinated?
Zostavax®, the shingles vaccine, cuts your chances of getting shingles in half. Perhaps most important, the vaccine reduces by two-thirds the risk of developing severe long-term nerve pain. If shingles is contracted after immunization, the vaccine can help reduce the severity and duration of shingles.
