Asthma in Action

Millions of children are affected by asthma and it continues to be one of the leading chronic childhood diseases in the United States. According to a recent CDC report on the state of childhood asthma in the United States, childhood asthma prevalence more than doubled from 1980 to the mid-1990s and remains at historically high levels. Often school age children spend a majority of their waking hours at school and participating in school sponsored activities. With the alarming rates of asthma in children, it is critical that school personnel are educated on asthma and its management.

The Asthma in Action program was developed as a tool to educate teachers, coaches, and school nurses about asthma. The majority of children with asthma continue to suffer from attacks even though there are means to prevent attacks and exacerbations. The goal of the Asthma in Action program is to help educate school personnel to handle asthma in school children, especially in relation to physical activity. You just may save a life!
